JOB TITLE: Assistant Accountant REPORTS TO: Finance Manager LOCATION: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania COMPANY: AMEL Finance Tanzania Ltd
Job Purpose
The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring statutory compliance, and facilitating smooth day-to-day accounting operations. The role requires strong attention to detail, sound analytical ability, and a commitment to timeliness and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Accounting Records & Data Entry
•
Assist in posting accounting transactions including general ledger entries, accruals, and prepayments.
•
Record supplier invoices accurately and maintain up-to-date creditors’ records.
•
Maintain debtor accounts and track customer instalment payments.
•
Prepare monthly reconciliations for both debtors and creditors accounts.
2.
Billing & Invoicing
•
Generate tax invoices and ensure accuracy in demand notes before issuing to clients.
•
Verify invoice batches and support resolution of billing queries where necessary.
3.
Bank & Account Reconciliation
•
Prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements and follow up on reconciling items.
4.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
•
Assist in preparation and reconciliation of monthly VAT returns.
•
Perform e-filing and timely submission of PAYE, SDL, WCF, WHT and other statutory returns through relevant government portals.
•
Ensure statutory deductions and payments are made on or before deadlines.
5.
Payments & Disbursements
•
Process supplier and service payments through online banking platforms.
•
Monitor creditor aging reports and ensure timely settlement of supplier obligations.
6.
Asset & Records Management
•
Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
•
Assist in physical verification exercises and asset reconciliation.
7.
Audit Support
•
Provide required documentation and support to both internal and external auditors during audit processes.
8.
General Support
•
Perform any additional duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Managing Director as required.
Qualifications & Experience
•
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
•
At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution or similar environment.
•
Proficiency in accounting software, MS Excel and Outlook.
•
Understanding of Tanzanian tax laws and statutory compliance requirements.
•
Strong numerical accuracy, organizational skills, and reliability.
