We’re hiring for a Field Testing Supervisor

In this role, you will use your research/agricultural experience to serve as a team member in the Testing Team to conduct planning, planting, data collection and harvesting of research phenotyping activities for Maize, Soy and Sunflower across South Africa.

Research and Development

Your Challenge:

Works as part of a team to plan and execute experiments/trials efficiently and accurately within seasonal deadlines.Responsibility to ensure all phenotyping activities are executed at assigned trial locations; from cooperator sourcing, mapping, seed preparation, planting, crop maintenance, data collection (including UAV’s) and harvesting.Ensuring all precision phenotyping data and associated pre-requisites are collected on time and are managed and uploaded (post-planting) prior to analysis.Will be expected to safely operate agricultural equipment.Attention to detail and proper maintenance as it pertains to research field equipment including tractors, planters, combine harvesters and other data collection tools.Remains current on new data collection technology and traits and implements the use thereof.Understanding the frameworks that govern the testing of regulated material in South Africa, as well as the handling and management of regulated seed and trials respectively.Maintaining good lines of communication and building strong partnerships between yourself and all relevant stakeholders in the regulated testing space, including contract research organizations (CRO’s).Would be expected to be a focal point for given management system standards and quality process, as well as reviewing and sharing best practices, current actions, challenges and activities related to these standards and quality processes.Continuous reporting and consulting on program and trial status. Yearly reporting on status of targeted metrics.Participate in improvement of safety programs and protocols (safety, efficiency, effectiveness) specific to direct work environment to identify and communicate potential risks and benefits.Complete personal development goals as part of a performance management and development plan.

To Grow What Matters, You Will Need

Master’s degree in agriculture with 3 years industry related experience or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years industry related experience.Strong background in agronomy.Would be expected to demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and a proven ability to make timely decisions, solve problems and build consensus.Excellent interpersonal/communication skills are required for fostering teamwork, enhancing a good working environment, and effectively developing strong working relationships with a diverse group of people.Ability to supervise and prioritize multiple tasks is critical.Experience with operating research specific agricultural equipment and implements will be beneficial.Experience with UAV/drone applications in agriculture and holding an RPC will be beneficial.Proficiency in Office software such as spreadsheets, mail, calendar and presentation software.Always comply with safety regulations and country laws, lead in a way which will inspire all team members and follow the example.Handle a demanding workload with long hours, travelling and weekend work during seasonal peaks.Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather.Has a valid driver’s license. Experience driving a pick-up or SUV would be beneficial.
