Job Description

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Field Technician to support fiber optic infrastructure projects in the utilities sector. This entry-level position requires visiting utility poles to collect data, perform basic inspections, and assist with GIS-based documentation. No design experience is required; however, a willingness to learn, work outdoors, and contribute to a growing team is essential.

ResponsibilitiesTravel to utility pole sites to collect location and condition data.Use mobile devices and GPS tools to record pole information and fiber cable routes.Take photos and notes to support engineering and GIS teams.Upload field data into GIS systems such as ArcGIS Field Maps and Collector.Assist with updating maps and records based on field observations.Flag discrepancies or missing data for review by senior staff.Work closely with field supervisors, GIS analysts, and fiber crews.Follow safety protocols and report any hazards or issues encountered.Attend training sessions to build knowledge of fiber networks and GIS tools.Essential SkillsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Interest in GIS, utilities, or telecommunications.Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.Basic computer and mobile device skills.Ability to follow instructions and work independently.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with mobile GIS apps or GPS devices.Familiarity with utility poles or fiber optic infrastructure.Technical school coursework or certifications in GIS or telecommunications.Background in Joint-Use with companies such as Comcast, Charter, AT&T, etc.Experience with fiber/telecommunications.Willingness to travel weekly to sites and work independently on field service tasks.Experience with fiber optic cable installation.Any experience with QGIS would be a significant advantage.Ability to recognize fiber on poles or experience in installing fiber on poles.Work Environment

The role involves traveling weekly to job sites throughout Georgia, with potential sites ranging from Savannah to the border of Alabama. Work is scheduled Monday through Thursday, consisting of 10-hour days. A company truck is provided for site visits, along with per diem and hotel accommodations. Employees will initially need to use their own card for expenses but will receive a company credit card once off contract. The position offers significant growth opportunities with numerous upcoming projects. Currently, the average is 43 poles per hour, expecting to capture 200-400 poles per day.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
