How will you make an impact?
The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers validate operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of analytical instruments serving the electronics research and manufacturing industries.
The Field Service Engineer will join a diverse team with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high voltage electronics, vacuum theory, particle beams, optics, and chemistry.
Territory: At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we value hiring talent from within the communities where we operate. This position supports a territory that includes up to 50% travel within Austin, Texas, and surrounding areas and neighboring states.
Relocation assistance is not available for this role. Candidates must be located within approximately 50 miles of Austin, Texas. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Conduct on-site installations across the regionConduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits per commitments and scheduleProvide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnelCultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleaguesComplete technical training, as requiredTravel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problemsAdvise external customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communicationPartner with colleagues as mentee and mentor to continue personal and team developmentContribute to continuous improvement efforts for Service, documentation, and product factoriesCollaborate with application scientists, technical support engineers, and customers to resolve complex customer challenges
Minimum Qualifications:
University Engineering Degree or equivalent combination of technical education and experience on sophisticated systems, or equivalent military experiencePrior experience using SEM, TEM, FIB, Circuit Analysis, or similar systems is preferredAbility to partner effectively with customersExcellent interpersonal communication skills; must have a professional working proficiency in EnglishHigh level of proficiency on Windows software, network knowledge, current computer hardwareMust have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as requiredMust possess a valid driver’s licensePhysical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required
