Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept “Equity-driven research, teaching, and practice” is the motto of the College of Education (COE), Oregon’s largest and most comprehensive college of education. In the next five years, the COE will be nationally recognized for working collaboratively with the surrounding communities, Tribal Nations, and our students to advance equity and excellence in education and counseling through our engaged research activities, and our community-centered and culturally responsive professional-preparation programs with innovative models for preparing diverse professionals who are critically engaged global citizens.

The COE mission is to prepare students to advance lifelong learning in diverse learning environments, including schools, postsecondary institutions, community organizations, and social service and health agencies. Position Summary The College of Education at Portland State University hires part­‐time faculty on an ongoing basis to supervise teacher candidates in clinical field experiences as part of their licensure or endorsement programs.

Supervision Responsibilities:

Observation and Evaluation of Students 70% Provide the required number of observations and follow up debrief for each teacher candidate. Provide the required number of evaluations according to program guidelines. Provide constructive support and suggestions to assist each teacher candidate’s professional growth, including instructional and content-specific pedagogies. Assist the teacher candidate in reflecting on their teaching lesson and broadening their own self-evaluation. Complete required documentation in the assessment portal.


Ongoing Support of Students 30% Document plan of action/interventions used to assist teacher candidates in gaining skills. Respond to email, phone calls, questions and other inquiries from students in a timely manner. Support teacher candidates according to program guidelines as established by PSU-COE. Ongoing collaboration and communication with the School Partnership Director, cooperating professional, and faculty regarding teacher candidate progress and areas for growth. Promote and sustain positive collaborative working relationships among the cooperating teacher and the teacher candidate. Establish and maintain working relationships with the building administrator at each site in order to support the student and build communication between the school and the University.

Additional Expectation with Compensation Upon CompletionAttend monthly supervisor professional learning. Minimum Qualifications Requisite Skills and Abilities: Understand, recognize and foster current instructional, content-specific pedagogies and research informed practices. Promote instructional strategies that reach all learners Problem-­solve and remain flexible in seeking solutions. Respect the cultural implications and expectations of the school and the students. Value other’s professional opinions and time, and give the time necessary for feedback and discussion. Communicate clearly in a timely manner and participate as a member of the team with the cooperating professional, teacher candidate and other school personnel. Recognize culturally responsive instructional and classroom practices.


Minimum Qualifications: The applicant must hold at least a Master’s degree. The applicant must hold or be eligible to hold an Oregon license appropriate to the authorization level being supervised. The applicant must either hold or be eligible to hold an Oregon license in the content area to be supervised. The applicant must be willing to have fingerprints or background check on file with the PSU Field Placement Office. The applicant must have a minimum of three years teaching in PreK-12. Additional Information Compensation:
0.33 credit per candidate per term for initial licensure student teaching; 0.2 credit per candidate per term for added endorsement. Current PSUFA cba rate for one credit is $1,360. Face-to-face professional learning that is required is compensated. Mileage reimbursement is offered for in person observations.
