Performs duties associated with engine room/machinery operations and over all maintenance of assigned "inspected" state owned marine vessels as defined by U.S. Coast Guard regulations. ** THIS VACANCY IS ONLY OPEN TO DOTD PERMANENT EMPLOYEES ** Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in marine operations plus a current U.S. Coast Guard officer's credential. NOTE: Possession of a current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) will be required at the time of appointment. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + Assumes responsibility, on an assigned shift, for the operation and routine maintenance of engine room and machinery aboard an "inspected" marine vessel (such as main propulsion diesel engines, main electrical generating plants, hydraulic systems, sanitation systems, pumping systems, electrical and lighting systems.) + Develop, implement, and manage the overall preventive maintenance program for ferry operations 'marine vessels, which may include scheduling work of lower-level engineers, oilers, and night shift personnel, inspection of work quality, and completion of assigned tasks. Coordinate with maintenance personnel and marine engineers at all other locations to troubleshoot, coordinate needed repairs and ensure consistent maintenance practices are followed. + Maintains required engineering logs and records and makes reports. Incumbent has responsibility for safe refueling operations, maintaining an adequate supply of cleaning materials, spare parts, forms, etc. + Assists Shipyard Inspector and/or Project Engineer with planning, coordination, and QA/QC inspection of all scheduled and unscheduled shipyard work. + Incumbent will serve as the point of contact for and work with outside agencies to administer USCG required programs.
