FEED MILL QA SPECIALIST

SUMMARY

This position has the responsibility of supervising feed mill employees to ensure efficient, timely and accurate production and delivery of feed product.  The incumbent also insures that this objective is met within compliance of all company, local, state and federal regulations regarding milling of poultry feeds.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Essential functions may be added or deleted in the future as required for the successful performance of the position.   All jobs require that safe work procedures be followed and protective devices be used properly.

 

Supervise feed mill employees to insure timely, efficient, accurate and safe production and delivery of highest quality feed.   Perform training activities.  Periodically monitor employee performance/habits.  Investigate, prepare and maintain accurate and timely reports and records on all incidents, accidents and injuries.  Initiate and/or implement operational, safety and environmental practices that meet or exceed all company government and regulatory standards. Perform and maintain all required QA functions including but not limited to, Pilgrims quality program (GMP), Antibiotic Free/Vegetarian (AF) program, Animal Protein Free (APF) program, Safe Feed / Safe Food (SFSF), (FSMA) program.

 

At our company we are determined to provide safe feed and food through our commitment and compliance with FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), AFIA’s Safe Feed/Safe Food (SFSF) guidelines, and adherence to this company’s Quality Assurance (QA) Program and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Pilgrim’s employees will be trained to identify and prevent food safety hazards and management will encourage employees to report suspected food safety issues without fear. Pilgrim’s is dedicated to providing the resources necessary to minimize or eliminate food safety hazards in these facilities. Each Pilgrim’s Feed Mill will maintain a third party certified food safety program under the direction of the Director of Quality Assurance.

 

Develop a good working relationship with fellow supervisor(s), employees, and poultry growers by listening to, investigating, reporting and resolving complaints and issues.

 

Keep Feed Mill Manager informed of non routine issues. Must be able to make independent decisions that will be in conformance to proper procedure.

 

Schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs and sanitation of mill.

 

Supervise employees in accordance to company policies and procedures and legal requirements.

 

Prepare accurate and timely reports for other departments such as to accounting.

 

Work as needed including possible alternate shift and weekend.

 

Maintain a working telephone number to be reached in emergency situations.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises Feed Mill employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and deal with percentages in whole numbers fractions and decimals in measurements and currency.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
