Federal Analytics - Principal Data Scientist

- The Principal Data Scientist will have responsibility for providing thought leadership and ownership of deliverables related to the designing, developing, and deploying of forward looking ML models meeting real business objectives and priorities.

- The ideal candidate will thrive in collaborative environments, capable of working in a dynamic data environment still in the early stages with significant growth on the roadmap. The team moves fast with solutioning happening in AWS, Redshift, and Tableau.

- The ideal candidate will prove capable of deep understanding of operational processes, data structures, and technical capabilities.

- The person in this role will collaborate closely with Operational leaders, Product Management, and the Federal EAP Data and Analytics team in order to provide solutions that can be merged into the technology stack and provide features to the overall product.

- Above all else, the candidate will act as a servant leader, supporting the development team and the organization with authenticity, integrity, and empathy.

Provides thought leadership in designing and implementing strategic frameworks and best practices to help grow overall data science literacy. Designs, documents, develops and delivers analyses using the latest innovations in computing tools, predictive analytics and machine learning. Uses a variety of computing and data mining tools and develops and maintains algorithms to predict patterns in data. Performs both ad hoc analyses that will vary in duration and complexity and participates in projects as part of the Data and Analytics team.Build best practices and frameworks as part of broader strategy to build data science literacy. (20%)Leads development and presentation of compelling, validated stories to all levels of organization, including peers, senior management and internal customers to drive both strategic and operational changes in business. Provides thought leadership on product and project roadmaps and participates in planning exercises. Coordinates and advises on analytics efforts performed by in-house staff or outside consultants to ensure that all work is completed according to the project plan. (20%)Utilizes machine learning and supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms. Participates in defining issues to be studied as well as the methodology to be used in addressing these issues. Develops algorithms to determine predictive patterns within the data. Participates in data governance and data definition discussions, ensuring consistency and validity across data universe. Works as part of broader scrum team to deliver capabilities on time and as part of larger project scope. (40%)Performs exploratory data analyses and data mining of healthcare data. Performs ad hoc analyses that will vary in duration and complexity. (20%)

Other Job Requirements

Responsibilities

Master’s Degree and 10+ years of experience in Data Science and/or AI development.
5+ years’ experience mentoring other data scientists learning/moving into a data science role.
Experience working in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Must be proficient in using SQL, Python, and Excel.
Proficient with basic querying capabilities using ANSI SQL for relational database read only querying purposes.
Proficient in the use of the latest innovations in computing tools, predictive analytics.
Experience in statistical analysis, data research, data design and sampling methodologies. Experience working with normalized and denormalized data structures.
Demonstrated ability to identify issues and propose methodological solutions.
Demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to complex business problems.
Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills - consulting, interpersonal, and presentation.
Ability to work under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills and ability to interpret results of query analyses.
Ability to develop and communicate analytic results to support business questions.
Must be capable of translating complex IT and computer concepts to unfamiliar users of the information at the executive level.
Must be able to balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of quality.
Synthesizes analyses well, highlighting implications of findings.
