Job Description
BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Tallahassee office was established in 2015 and has resettled over 1,500 refugees from 50 countries into Tallahassee, Florida.
SCOPE OF YOUTH MENTORSHIP INTERN : The Youth Mentorship Intern will support refugee and immigrant youth enrolled in the CRS program by providing Mentorship, encouragement, and guidance to help them adapt to life in the United States , set educational and career goals, and build confidence and independence. The Intern will work closely with CRS Caseworkers and Employment specialists , and community partners to coordinate and implement activities tailored to youth development. The hours for this position are flexible; however, it will primarily be between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid. Accepting Tallahassee-based candidates only.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Youth Mentorship Intern wi ll assist the CRS Program with the following tasks:
+ Build Positive, culturally respectful mentoring relationship with youth aged 14-24
+ Support youth in setting personal, academic, and career goals through one-on-one or group mentoring.
+ Assist in developing and facilitating youth-focused workshops or activities e.g., Job readiness ESL, college prep, life skills.
+ Conduct outreach and follow-up with youth and their families as needed.
+ Track youth participation and document activities in program records or case notes.
+ Collaborate with CRS team members to identify resources and services relevant to youth development .
+ Maintain confidentiality and uphold trauma-informed, strength-based practices.
+ Attend supervision meetings and training sessions as required .
+ Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Strong interest in working with an international population
+ Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in social work, psychology, education, Public Health, or related field.
+ Proficiency with employment related activities
+ Proven ability to work with consideration and respect for cross-cultural differences
+ Excellent communication and organization skills
+ Ability to work independently
+ Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and internet research
+ Enthusiasm for helping people to learn and demonstrated professionalism
+ Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle
REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must pass a background check
+ Must be at least 18 years old
+ Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months.
+ Submit intern hours on volunteer dashboard
This will be an in-person role.
This position will report to the Casework Supervisor
