BAE Systems is seeking a Failure Analyst for our Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) business location in Fort Wayne, IN. Being a trusted provider of commercial aircraft solutions, the CAS business also develops and produces highly reliable, adaptable, and scalable avionics solutions for the leading manufacturers of commercial aircraft and their propulsion systems. As a member of BAE Systems team, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with complex electronic controls and solve challenging technical problems that both enhance our products performance and matter to our customers.
**Job responsibilities for the position may include:**
Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis of components and assemblies used in avionics controls
Develop and execute root cause analysis plans following standard RC/CA processes.
Interface / collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal functions to maximize efficiencies and performance throughout the product lifecycle
Generate Root Cause results documentation Failure Analysis Reports, etc.
Recommend corrective actions and recurrence mitigation strategies.
Archive results summaries (e.g. 8D RCCAs, Reports, etc.) into knowledge databases
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite in the Fort Wayne, IN manufacturing facility and remote. Some light travel may be required (10%).
**Required Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Must demonstrate a well-developed problem solving and root cause analysis approach.
+ Proficient in the forensic analysis process to accurately gather data and determine root cause of components and assembly failures.
+ Familiar with electrical and mechanical failure modes and materials
+ Familiar with product configuration management practices
+ Establish and maintain effective relationship with stakeholders from design, suppliers, operations, and end-use customers, to achieve the optimal implementation of corrective actions based on root cause findings
+ Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws.
+ Must have excellent communication skills in writing details technical reports, as well as verbal technical discussions with design, operations, suppliers, customers, and all levels of management.
+ Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers, and suppliers.
+ Demonstrated proficient computer skills to prepare appropriate reports and documentation.
+ Ability to operate independently while balancing multiple tasks and priorities.
**Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills**
+ Real-time x-ray radiography
+ Chemical de-processing using acids and materials specific solvents
+ Manual de-processing and cross sectioning
+ Scanning electron microscopy
+ General electrical test equipment (e.g. power suppliers, meters, curve tracers)
+ Macro/micro photography using high-resolution stereo microscopes and related software
+ Experience in performing root-cause component failure analyses on electrical, mechanical and mechatronic components and assemblies used in avionics applications (e.g. resistors, capacitors, inductors, semiconductors, microcircuits, relays, switches, printed circuit boards, solder interconnects, etc.)
+ Familiarity with FTIR and CSAM analysis
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a small team to resolve open ended problems
+ Ability to coach and mentor others in the organization
+ Working knowledge of reliability engineering principals including design of experiments, accelerated life testing, Weibull analysis, normal population distribution
+ Working knowledge of physical metallurgy as it relates to failure mechanism identification
**Pay Information**
Full-Time Salary Range: $96623 - $164259
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
