Faculty Recognition Specialist

This position will coordinate support for faculty in developing application materials and other strategic promotional efforts. This role manages the internal awards submission processes, ensuring nominations are collected and distributed appropriately. In this effort, they collaborate with emeriti faculty to assist with preparation of awards nominations for current faculty. Reporting to the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Faculty Recognition Specialist is focused on increasing the number of prestigious external awards Iowa State University faculty receive. This requires a thorough understanding of our faculty and an effective use of data to identify candidates for these awards. The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with excellent writing skills. They will possess the necessary strategic and analytical skills to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. The person in the role needs to possess excellent communication skills to provide timely and relevant information and analysis to administrators and other stakeholders. Example of Duties • Track and organize preparation and submission of multiple nominations with competing deadlines • Partner with administrators, departments, and faculty to develop and submit nominations for national and international honors/awards • Monitor and communicate internal and external award nomination processes, including timelines and application requirements • Prepare reports on awards data and outcomes for university leaders. Formal reports include summative and formative data, e.g., number of nominations, faculty and departments served, etc. • Support communication strategy related to internal and external faculty awards and honors. (i.e. FAQs, best practices, award brochures, award calls for newsletters) • Lead the coordination of faculty recognition events in partnership with the President’s Office, the Vice President for Research, and other stakeholders • Provide training sessions via in-person and virtual workshops, targeted seminars, and ad hoc requests to aid faculty and staff comprehension of the award nomination process • Monitor data regarding number of ISU faculty receiving prestigious national and international awards and memberships in honorary societies​ • Assist with promotion of ISU faculty research and recognition in collaboration with Strategic Communications and external partners Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist• Provides guidance to students Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
