No County Essex Street Address 1115 Route 86 City Ray Brook State NY Zip Code 12977 Duties Description This position is based in Ray Brook on the Ray Brook Trail Crew. Candidate will be required to work solo, with at least one other or as part of a crew. Will work in remote mountainous terrain possibly in challenging weather including winter conditions. Duties include but are not limited to: blowdown removal with chainsaws and hand tools, relocating pit privy toilets, trail maintenance and construction, supervising volunteers, assisting Interior Caretakers with projects,boundary line maintenance, garbage removal and various other tasks based on need. Must utilize hand tools for most projects. Must be able to perform heavy physical labor, carry 50-70 lbs backpack loads and negotiate difficult mountainous terrain. Must be flexible with weekly schedule, shift time and work location. Overtime and emergency response may be required. Knowledge of carpentry, electrical and plumbing highly beneficial. Minimum Qualifications one year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated. Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required.
