Join AT&T and help shape the future of communications and technology that connect the world. We value innovators who seek to explore the unknown and challenge the status quo. Bring your bold ideas and fearless spirit to redefine connectivity and transform how people share stories and experiences. At AT&T, you won’t just imagine the future—you’ll build it.
This Expert Systems Engineer role sits at the center of the team responsible for how network usage is processed, rated, and monetized at scale, supporting revenue‑critical systems across the enterprise. As a technical leader within the Charging & Usage domain, you will own the architecture and technical direction of high‑volume, performance‑sensitive platforms while helping drive AI‑enabled modernization and platform evolution. While your primary focus is charging and usage, you will operate with an enterprise platform mindset, applying AI, automation, and modern architecture patterns to improve efficiency, scalability, and long‑term system sustainability across domains.
What You’ll Do
Design and evolve large‑scale charging, usage rating, and network data processing platforms that support real‑time and high‑volume monetization of network traffic.
Architect scalable, high‑performance systems that ingest, process, rate, and distribute usage data across complex BSS and downstream ecosystems.
Translate charging and usage business requirements into end‑to‑end technical designs, ensuring accuracy, performance, and reliability at scale.
Serve as the primary technical owner for charging and usage initiatives, accountable for architecture decisions, roadmap execution, and delivery outcomes.
Lead cross‑functional design efforts involving network systems, mediation, rating engines, downstream billing, and data consumers.
Partner closely with vendors and internal platform teams to influence technical roadmaps and ensure seamless system integration.
Conduct deep performance, latency, and reliability analysis, proactively identifying and resolving system bottlenecks and operational risks.
Apply AI and advanced automation to improve rating accuracy, throughput, anomaly detection, and delivery efficiency.
Maintain detailed system and architecture documentation, ensuring compliance with security, risk, and regulatory requirements.
Act as a senior technical leader across domains, influencing broader platform decisions beyond charging and usage.
What You’ll Need
Proven experience designing charging, usage, mediation, or network‑adjacent platforms in large‑scale enterprise environments.
Strong system architecture skills spanning real‑time processing, high‑volume data pipelines, and distributed systems.
Hands‑on experience translating business monetization requirements into resilient technical solutions.
Ability to operate across network, platform, software, and cloud environments.
Experience leading complex initiatives through technical influence rather than direct authority.
What You’ll Bring
Master's degree (MS/MA) desired in Computer Science, preferred.
10+ years of related engineering experience.
Deep expertise in charging, usage rating, or network data processing, combined with enterprise‑level architectural thinking.
A track record of leading high‑impact, cross‑domain initiatives tied to revenue‑critical systems.
Strong problem‑solving skills in ambiguous, high‑scale environments.
Comfort engaging with senior and executive leaders as a technical authority and advisor.
An enterprise mindset — able to think beyond a single system and connect solutions across platforms.
