As a member of this team, you will assist these professionals in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of your assigned patients. Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. 

 

 

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, with weekend, holidays and an on-call requirement.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.  

Involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.  

Provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication and document.  

Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes and contribute to the improvement of care. 

Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.  

Complete admission assessments of maternal and/or infant patients, inclusive of psychological, educational and age-specific needs of patients/families 

Communicate information in a timely fashion regarding changes in patient condition and patient care/unit issues. 

Perform Unit Coordinator responsibilities as needed, serve on committees within the Department of Nursing, participate in nursing grand round presentation and complete all electronic and paper records related to patient care. 

Ensure JCAHO Core Measures related to nursing care are achieved and incorporate patient safety goals in daily practice.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program) 

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within one year of hire 

Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics within six months of hire 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
