**Experienced Engineer - Operations Technology** Location **Madison** Job Category Apply Now (https://phf.tbe.taleo.net/phf01/ats/careers/v2/applyRequisition?org=MGE&cws=38&rid=2049) **Job Purpose** The Experienced Engineer – Grid Operations Technology provides advanced engineering support for real-time grid operations platforms, including EMS/SCADA, operational models, and substation automation systems. This role focuses on reliable system performance, accurate operational data, and effective operator tools while supporting ongoing modernization and integration initiatives. **Core Responsibilities** _Note: This is not an all-inclusive listing._ + Support configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of EMS/SCADA systems across production, training, and test environments. + Develop and maintain real-time operational models, telemetry mappings, and data validations to support accurate grid operations. + Build, enhance, and maintain SCADA displays and visualization tools to support operator situational awareness. + Support integration and testing of RTUs, PLCs, and field devices in coordination with field technicians and engineers. + Assist with EMS upgrades, patching, testing, and system enhancements in collaboration with vendors and internal teams. + Analyze and resolve EMS/SCADA, telemetry, model, and display issues, support incident response and root cause analysis. + Support operational analytics, EMS reporting, and data workflows aligned with regulatory and market requirements. + Collaborate with Operations, IT, Engineering, GIS, and Market Operations on system integrations and grid modernization efforts. + Document system changes, models, configurations, and procedures in accordance with engineering and compliance standards. **Behavioral Competencies** _Note: these are in addition to MGE’s Core Competencies_ + **Technical Expertise** – Demonstrates strong functional knowledge and applies it effectively to operational challenges. + **Problem Solving** – Uses disciplined analysis to resolve complex technical and system issues. + **Action Oriented** – Takes initiative to address operational needs and system improvements. + **Collaborates** – Works effectively across teams to deliver reliable operational outcomes. + **Communicates Effectively** – Clearly shares technical information with operators, engineers, and partners. **Skills** + EMS/SCADA system support and configuration (advanced) + Operational model development and telemetry validation (advanced) + SCADA display development and visualization (advanced) + Substation automation and field device integration (proficient) + Power system operations and real-time grid behavior (advanced) + Technical troubleshooting and incident response (advanced) + Technical documentation and change control (proficient) **Education** + Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline **Experience** + Several years of experience supporting utility operational technology systems, including EMS/SCADA + Experience with real-time operational modeling, telemetry, and grid operations + Exposure to utility communications protocols and market-aligned operations preferred **Work Location** This hybrid role is based at our Madison, WI headquarters.
