This role provides direct patient care for patients recovering from open heart surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention. Quality care is provided for acute care and intermediate follow-up in the outpatient cardiac rehab center. You will work with complex patients who have had cutting edge cardiac procedures. Caregivers on this team talk about how much they love their job and would love to welcome a team player that is eager to learn, grow and take care of patients to the team.
A caregiver in this position works days from 5:30AM—4:00PM (4-10 hours shifts).
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.
Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.
Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree in an exercise-related field
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Good interpersonal skills to work with patients, nurses, physicians and other exercise physiologists
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology
One year of experience with cardiac stress testing
Background in Cardiac Rehabilitation
Experience with Inpatient Care (Post-Surgery Patients, Monitoring vitals, etc.)
Working knowledge of EKG Rhythms
Understanding of Telemetry Monitoring (Tele)
Flexibility to Work in Both Inpatient and Outpatient Settings

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
