EXERCISE AND WELLNESS SPECIALIST

Job Summary/Overall Objectives

Responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the employee exercise program. Provides exercise evaluations and plans for bariatric surgery program patients. Participate in employee health screenings. Participates in the outpatient diabetes education program. Participates in service line promotion through community outreach events.

 Essential Job Functions

Performance of technical practice Assists with obtaining and maintaining supplies and inventory in a cost-effective manner Operates and can instruct patients on the operation of exercise equipment Patient Care Conducts physical performance evaluations and based on results of evaluations, designs exercise prescriptions for individuals with medical limitations in the outpatient setting. Monitors and evaluates participant's response to prescribed exercise Conducts ergonomic assessments Conducts bone density screens Evaluates data gathered from testing and evaluation and assists in the development of treatment plans. Conducts exercise sessions/classes and evaluates and evaluates exercise progress of participants Participate in education for clients, family, community and other health care workers. Maintains a collaborative relationship with other health care providers to achieve desired outcomes and assure a continuous flow of patient care. Communicates pertinent information of actual/potential problems to the appropriate staff member Demonstrates leadership Solves problems utilizing critical thinking skills and seeking assistance as appropriate Maintains accountability for actions taken Effectively functions as a resource person Acts as a patient advocate Performs effectively in the role of preceptor/mentor to new hires Assists in maintaining/decreasing department costs Provides patient safety in compliance with department and hospital policies. Utilizes two forms of identification before implementing any form of patient care Assumes appropriate code team role during medical emergencies Responds effectively during emergency situations Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors and staff. Participates in unit performance activities designed to enhance the quality of patient care and customer service Professional Practice Coordinates and provides personal training exercise program for employees and spouses Provides wellness programming for employees and the community. Coordinates and facilitates the employee exercise program Teaches the exercise component of the outpatient diabetes education program Coordinates and provides exercise evaluations/prescriptions for bariatric surgery candidates. Assists in the development of screening tools for services line promotion Develops and facilitates employee exercise programs Community Outreach/Marketing Provides community outreach/education through participation in center events and public speaking. Provides Biometric Screenings Performs biometric screening to include weight/BMI, blood pressure, waist circumference, and finger stick lab testing. Accurately enters all data into the MyBioCheck application according to the Biometric Screening Policy/Procedure. Review results with participant and provides brief counseling. Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]

Required Qualifications/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or Exercise Science. One (1) to three (3) years of experience in exercise program development, training and counseling. Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Proficiency in use of Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and various software applications. Knowledge of Human Anatomy.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Public speaking experience. Ergonomic assessment and experience.

License, Certification & Clearances

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program. Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
