Westchester Environmental is looking for an applicant to fill the position of Executive Underwriter supporting our Mid-West Region. Westchester Environmental writes both contractors and consultants across multiple industries. This underwriter will be charged with directly underwriting, managing, and growing a book consisting mainly of Environmental Contractors/Consultants package, Manufacturers' Products Pollution, Unsupported XS, monoline site, and contractors’ pollution accounts. The underwriter will be responsible for aggressively marketing to their assigned brokers to bring in opportunities and will work closely with the respective zonal manager, EVP for Westchester Environmental, as well as various Business Development Managers across the region to position this portfolio within Westchester Environmental’ s strategy for growth and profit.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Solicits new and renewal submissions from appointed wholesaler brokers.Determines terms and conditions and complex rating plans.Quote/Bind coverage.Documents the underwriting files to company/division expectations.Handle files and portfolios within underwriting authority.Takes ownership of given production goals and utilizes all available department resources to achieve said goals.Local and regional broker visitations/travel is expected.Profitability & Production:
Goal Achievement - Delivering upon the established New and Renewal business goals as provided by the Regional Underwriting Manager. Growth Strategies - Executing upon the assigned roles per the regional marketing plans and strategies. This includes:Client & broker relations including sales calls & attendant strategiesCompleting target account responsibilities & cross sell strategiesUnderwriting Integrity - Achieving all underwriting standards as outlined by the CHUBB Westchester Specialty Environmental Division home office and all applicable Underwriting Guidelines, Authorities, and Position Papers. Risk selection:Fundamentals of coverage, terms and conditions. Ability to offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer.Risk Assessment. Ability to identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls. Ability to select risk based on exposure and risk analysis. Ability to analyze claims and quantify losses.Performance will be measured by:
Achievement of premium goals & budgetsAdherence to underwriting goals, guidelines & objectivesAdherence to departmental workflow and service standardsQualitative assessment of underwriting decisionsResults of internal and external underwriting auditsNew business submission and quote activity Marketing activityExperience in the wholesale/E&S insurance industryExperience in underwriting environmental lines of business. This includes but is not limited to the following coverage lines: Commercial General Liability, Products, Contractors Pollution Liability, Professional Liability, Site Pollution Liability, Excess Liability, Business AutoAbility to review and analyze environmental due diligenceAbility to review, evaluate, and develop coverage forms and endorsementsNegotiation & presentation skillsProven broker relations & customer management skill setStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational skills with attention to detailAbility to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, share knowledge, and develop staffBasic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power PointTechnical capabilities (ability to work comfortably with various IT systems)
Education & Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 Years Underwriting experienceBachelor’s Degree or Equivalent ExperienceThe pay range for the role is $110,000 to $170,500. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
