Job Details

Cleveland Clinic is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to serve as the Executive Director Professional Staff Affairs. This leader plays a key role in the organization, managing operations for staff, physicians and scientists across the enterprise. 

 

Reporting Directly to the Enterprise Chief of Staff, the Executive Director Professional Staff Affairs serves as the leader responsible for professionalism and regulatory operations and management of enterprise-wide Professional Staff, employed physicians and scientists. This caregiver leads this function along with the conflict-of-interest program enterprise wide. 

 

This leader has direct line operational responsibilities including Conflict of Interest Office, Physician & APP Recruitment and Alignment Office, Women’s Professional Staff Affairs, and Credentialing & Privileging. Additionally, this leader has direct oversight of Medical Staff bylaw, staff policies and procedures, APR process and other staff governance regulations. 

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

This is an enterprise position requiring approximately 10% travel, with the caregiver expected to be on-site at Main Campus about 50% of the time. Additional travel may be needed to other Cleveland Clinic locations, including Northeast Ohio, Florida, London, and Abu Dhabi.

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will: 

Be directly responsibility for staff governance, internal investigations, professionalism, due process proceedings, personnel-related strategy and participation in enterprise-wide leadership meetings, providing input relating to Professional Staff, physician and scientist issues. 

Support and participate in institutional activities such as Retirement Committee, Institute Chair Council, Department Chair Council, Professional Conduct Committee and other areas as necessary. 

Be a member in the following groups and committees: Enterprise Board of Governors, Main Campus Medical Executive Committee, Board of Governors Professional Advancement Council, Enterprise Risk Steering Committee, Enterprise Physician Alignment Committee. 

Work in close collaboration with the Law Department, Caregiver Office, market and submarket leadership, clinical institutes, Strategy Office, International Operations, Education and numerous other areas that interface with the Professional Staff and employed physicians and scientists. 

Support Executive Administration on significant issues relating to the Professional Staff and employed physicians. 

Lead people in a complex environment, setting meaningful goals and ensuring accountability in achievement. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal candidate include: 

Master's degree in law, health or business administration 

Minimum of 10 years of experience in legal, healthcare industries or related professional areas, including demonstrated experience in dealing with complex negotiations with high-level physicians and executives 

Strong understanding of and first-hand working experience with legal and regulatory requirements applicable to governance (including Codes of Regulations and Physician bylaws), physician contracting, internal investigations, employment rights, acquisitions, conflict of interest and disciplinary actions 

Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate 

Strong understanding of legal and regulatory complexities surrounding physician employment environment 

Strong understanding of governance matters, including codes of regulations, bylaws and policies and procedures 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal candidate include: 

Leadership experience managing teams

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively and exchange accurate information.

Ability to travel throughout the health system both domestically and internationally.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
