What you'll be doing
As an integral member of CIBC Global Asset Management's (GAM’s) Distribution team, you'll be reporting to the MD and Head, GAM Advisor Distribution. The Executive Director, Distribution Strategy and Business Effectiveness and will be responsible for the development and implementation of the GAM sales strategy – incorporating a data-driven approach to maximize productivity of the wholesaling, BDM and National Accounts teams aligned to the overall GDT Global Distribution strategy with focus on all dealer channels. You'll operate in a fast-paced environment as part of a dynamic, sales driven, client-focused team. Your mandate is to drive profitable growth to support GAM’s distribution vision by developing and enabling sales growth strategy, executing to meet GAM’s growth targets, and managing the day-to-day business activities.
This is a leadership role leading individuals to develop and optimize new opportunities with clients, identify new revenue generating opportunities, identify new cost savings & efficiencies, and drive profitable revenue growth by deepening client relationships to reach target markets and market share. You'll be an advisor and right-hand person to the MD and Head, Advisor Distribution, providing leadership, strategic guidance, and team management to the National Sales team.

How you'll succeed
GAM Advisor Distribution Strategy - Leads the development, communication, implementation and management of strategies, policies and programs. Ensure that related issues, organizational risks and opportunities are identified and raised for consideration in the formulation and revision of policy and strategy. Provide authoritative analysis, interpretation and opinion to support and guide senior management ensuring an understanding and acceptance of issues and influence the direction and nature of corporate policy. Collaborate with teams in broader GAM to ensure alignment to the overall GAM strategy.
Strategic Planning - Own the development and execution of annual strategic business plans and business cases. Work with product peers, your team, and cross functional resources to achieve business objectives including NPS, revenue, profit, volume and market share goals. Drive sales effectiveness, create operational efficiency and strategic congruence. Accountable for performance of Advisor Distribution KPIs through strategic management and ongoing analysis of trends and the competitive landscape. Track and manage business performance and trends, support monthly/quarterly/annual financial forecasts. Develop efficiencies within processes across teams. Identify technical tools to enhance efficiencies and ensure market parity, focusing on client relationships, optimizing client value, production optimization, and continuous improvement.
Product, Service Development and Implementation - Leveraging your knowledge of the market, provide recommendations on distribution channels and/or cross-selling opportunities for GAM product offerings. Proactively identify recommendations for new products and services, and sales initiatives, and assist in the coordination with the appropriate units for its development.
Sales Leadership & Business Enablement - Lead the priorities for new sales acquisition, relationship deepening and client experience delivery to meet overall revenue and volume growth. Leads a fact-based approach to identify and propagate best practices across BDMs and Regional Sales Directors to accelerate enhanced advisor experience and accelerate revenue growth.
Champion new initiatives to open up new 3rd party distribution channels. Lead the development of the operational model for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technology for National Sales to enhance client interactions. Strategic territory management and client segmentation - effective mapping of territories for effective coverage, client segmentation and maximum market penetration. Ability to contribute effectively to the GAM Management Team and the GAM strategic plan.
Connectivity - Enhance connectivity between National Sales and other areas of GAM such as Marketing, Product, Sales and Research. Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across different departments to share best practices, market knowledge, and identify new opportunities of business for GAM.
Team Management - Provide senior leadership and effective management of business unit staff to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job by: Setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals; Building team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training; Ensuring compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
Financial, Operational and Business Effectiveness - Support in the preparation of sales plans and help to monitor plan versus actual. Provide recommendations on tracking mechanisms that could be implemented to provide accurate reporting on sales targets, market share targets, profit, AUM targets. Ensure adherence to operational procedures within sales and broader organization. Conducts regular evaluation of policies that directly affect the quality of client offers, business development, distribution and revenue contribution, along with the overall risk management of these businesses.
Cross-Functional Relationships - This job interacts on a regular basis with: Business leaders/stakeholders in Asset Management, Capital Markets, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Risk Management) External vendors as required.
Compliance Requirements and Responsibilities - As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls. As a manager of people, this job must ensure all employees within the business unit comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls.
Authorities and Decision Rights - As a key contributor to the business unit, this job has the authority to recommend changes to business processes in order to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. As a manager of people, this job has the authority to assign tasks to employees within their span of control, select individuals for hire, assess individual performance, make employee compensation decisions and take disciplinary measures up to and including termination. Manage the relationship between the Product Management team and various partners throughout the bank for all facets of the product & marketing relationship with a high focus on client experience and partnering for shared success. Manage a team of Senior Managers/Directors currently with plans for growth.
Who you are
You have a degree/diploma in Business, Commerce or related field. It’s an asset if you have an MBA.
You have a strong and extensive background in Asset Management and Wealth Management
You can demonstrate experience in Product Management and strategic planning.
You have the ability to plan and coordinate several initiatives simultaneously.
You have a strong ability to understand and interpret complex information, identify patterns and trends in new or strategic areas, and independently develop recommendations in order to respond to urgent business priorities.
You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You communicate detailed information in a meaningful way.
You have an excellent communication and presentation skills sufficient to prepare, present material to and influence executive audience.
You are a caring and accountable leader. You have experience developing and implementing strategic team goals. You have experience coaching employees and inspiring successful team performance.
It’s an asset if you are a CFA charter holder or pursuing it.
