As an Exercise Physiologist, you will develop individualized exercise prescriptions and oversee exercise progression for patients with cardiovascular disease in a rehabilitative setting. In this role, you will provide patient education and coaching focused on lifestyle modification, including nutrition counseling, smoking cessation, weight management, and management of blood pressure, lipid disorders, and diabetes. This role supports patients recovering from cardiopulmonary events and teaches the skills needed for lifelong improvement in overall health.
This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working days between 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Caregivers may also work at other sites, including Euclid Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital, South Pointe Hospital and Main Campus, with additional options available for those willing to travel farther.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.
Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.
Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.
Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.
Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.
Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree in an exercise-related field
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology
Experience working or internship in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
Stress testing experience
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.
Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.
Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
