THE ROLE This position assists with maintaining, controlling and monitoring all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, etc. of the North Charleston Coliseum, Convention and Performing Arts Centers (the Facilities). ESSENTIAL DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Preventive maintenance and repairs on all Facilities systems. + Maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, painting and other equipment and materials as necessary, including, but not limited to, design, purchase and installation of systems. + Maintain building structure, hardware and various vehicles (i.e., Zamboni, fork trucks, etc.) + Operate equipment including, but not limited to, forklift, hand tools, Zamboni ice resurfacer, power tools, scissor lift, and pickup truck. + Understand use of the Facilities systems including, but not limited to, lighting, scoreboard, sound and intercom. + Fully understand technical operations of all equipment in the Facilities. + Assist in operating the Facilities during event and non-event modes as efficiently as possible. + Assist in the event set-up and tear down (i.e., basketball floor, stage, dasher boards, risers, chairs, etc.) as necessary. + Assist in the load-in, set-up and load-out of decorators and exhibitors, handling client’s contractual plumbing service needs. + Develop and submit lists of necessary repairs and improvements. + Assist staff as needed in all areas of Operations, performing other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance functions and various technical areas including carpentry, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, painting and cleaning; technical knowledge of various tools and equipment needed to perform tasks in these areas. Previous experience in a similar facility environment and/or a technical degree in engineering or a vocational certificate preferred. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE + High School Diploma or GED equivalent + Good communication skills & willingness to work as a team. Must be able to interact successfully with all coworkers and the general public. SKILLS AND ABILITIES + Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems and building maintenance functions. + Ability to speak, read and write English. + Ability to access all areas of the Facilities. + Ability to perform physical labor. + Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays. COMPENSATION Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
