Estimating Manager
Location: Spartanburg, SC (Hybrid | Open to candidates within 250-mile radius or Southeast Region)
Travel: 25–40%
Pay Range: $120,000 – $150,000
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Estimating Manager to lead the estimating efforts for complex, large-scale industrial installations—particularly involving production, process, and packaging equipment. This individual will oversee turnkey bid preparation including labor, equipment, subcontractor, and general condition costs for projects ranging from $800K to $10M.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Analyze RFQs, specifications, and site documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
+ Lead end-to-end bid process including take-offs, trade pricing, value engineering, labor forecasting, and equipment selection.
+ Collaborate with PMs, engineers, and subcontractors (electrical, piping, rigging, etc.) to develop accurate scopes of work.
+ Ensure proposals reflect practical execution strategies and identify potential risk items early.
+ Manage and mentor 2–3 junior estimators; ensure consistent tracking of labor and equipment rates.
+ Align estimates with overall project strategy and RFQ requirements—call out red flags and propose viable alternatives.
+ Present completed proposals to leadership and clients in a clear, professional format.
+ Maintain and improve historical cost database for continuous estimating improvement.
+ Attend pre-bid meetings, perform site visits, and engage in early-stage customer discussions.
+ Support internal sales strategy and drive estimating process efficiency in collaboration with the Business Development Manager.
Requirements & Qualifications:
+ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field OR equivalent hands-on experience.
+ Experience: 7+ years in industrial construction estimating, preferably with turnkey installation experience.
+ Familiarity with self-performing trades such as rigging, millwright work, or equipment setting.
+ Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems related to production or process equipment.
+ Ability to develop turnkey estimates and coordinate input across trade disciplines.
+ Demonstrated experience with heavy rigging, cranes, forklift utilization, and packaging line installation is a strong plus.
+ Effective communicator able to explain complex estimates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
+ Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and construction compliance requirements.
+ Must be able to secure contractor’s licenses if required.
