**POSITION DETAILS**
The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) at The City University of New York (CUNY) oversees academic policy, program development, and educational initiatives across the University. Within OAA, the Adult Literacy Programs (ALP) support thousands of New Yorkers annually across 14 CUNY campuses through English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Pre-High School Equivalency (Pre-HSE), and High School Equivalency (HSE) programs. CUNY’s Central Office staff provides training, curriculum development, and instructional leadership in collaboration with campus programs and statewide partners to strengthen outcomes for adult learners.
Reporting to the University Director of Language and Literacy Programs, the ESOL Curriculum and Professional Development Manager provides CUNY-wide management and support for teacher training, curriculum design, and instructional quality across CUNY’s Adult Literacy Programs. The Manager works closely with Central Office colleagues, campus-based directors, and external partners, including the Regional Adult Education Network (RAEN) and the Literacy Assistance Center, to advance evidence-based instructional practices that improve outcomes for English learners.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
+ Assess professional development needs and plan training activities, including workshops, consultations, and campus-based sessions.
+ Provide instructional leadership and training to ESOL teachers through consultations, demonstration teaching, co-teaching, and seminars.
+ Develop curricula, lesson sets, and teaching materials that integrate academic literacy and content-based ESOL instruction.
+ Train and support new teachers in Adult Literacy Program best practices and ESOL requirements.
+ Monitor and support program implementation of ESOL assessments (BEST Plus 3.0, BEST Literacy, CASAS).
+ Organize and facilitate professional development initiatives such as conferences, peer mentoring, study groups, and online instructional resource development.
+ Stay current with research in ESOL instruction and professional development, contributing to the field through conferences and publications, as appropriate.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**NOTES:**
Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Minimum Qualifications**
Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Advanced degree in Education, English, ESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
+ Minimum six years of experience teaching adult learners and/or working with immigrant populations.
+ Demonstrated experience developing ESOL curricula and facilitating training in adult education, pre-college, or college transition programs.
+ Strong knowledge of pedagogical approaches, adult learning theory, and student development frameworks.
+ Proven ability to design, deliver, and evaluate professional development for educators.
+ Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including presentation and group facilitation.
+ Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team across diverse communities of learners and educators.
+ Proficiency with digital platforms and tools used in instruction and administration, including Zoom, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams).
+ Familiarity with open educational resources (OER) and digital instructional materials preferred.
+ Flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends in support of program needs.
**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**
Supports faculty development activities related to the delivery of high-quality instructional services.
- Plans and implements workshops, seminars, colloquia, and other events for full- and part-time faculty to enhance skills and provide enrichment in support of improved educational results
- Compiles data and reports on faculty activities and outcomes
- Creates and maintains handbooks, instructions, web sites, and other materials to support faculty activities
- Consults with faculty on a variety of issues including instructional design, general orientation, use of technology, preparing meaningful course materials, grant-writing, and collaboration with other institutions
- May supervise professional and administrative staff
- Performs related duties as assigned.

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**
The salary range is **$86,741 - $94,909,** commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.
Salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
