**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** **Description:** Posting Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists nursing staff with various patient care activities. Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Provides safe, personal care to patients. + Responds to patient call lights quickly. + Under the direction of nursing staff, assists in providing care. + Prepares food for patients. + Performs EKG’s. + Assists in orienting patients/families to hospital environment. + Answers patient and family questions and refers appropriately. + Assists in safekeeping of patient belongings. 2. Maintains clean, organized patient rooms and work areas. + Keeps patient rooms neat and appropriately supplied. + Cleans department equipment, supplies and utility areas. + Maintains cleanliness of patient carts and rooms. + Cleans kitchen areas. + Reports unsafe/faulty equipment to charge nurse. 3. Transports patients. + Selects appropriate mode of transportation and equipment needed. + Checks patient identification to ensure correct patient and chart are transported. + Performs patient preparation activities under the direction of an RN. + Consults with nursing staff as needed. + Works to ensure patient safety and comfort. + Responds to emergency situations and takes appropriate action. + Communicates relevant patient information appropriately. 4. Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit which may include: Birth – 28 days Neonate 1 – 18 Months Infant 18 Months – 3 Years Toddler 3 – 6 Years Preschool-aged 6 – 12 Years School-aged 12 – 18 Years Adolescents 18 – 65 Years Adults 65+ Years Geriatric + Collects, analyzes, interprets and applies age-specific data. + Performs tasks/procedures, uses equipment in an age appropriate manner. + Communicates and works with others in an age appropriate manner. 5. Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures. + Attends required safety programs. + Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job. + Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations. + Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture. + Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved. + Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits. 6. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS + Basic Skill Set - Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties. + Minimum of 6 months patient care experience preferred. + BLS. + Mandatory Reporter. + Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI) within 6 months of hire. + Basic language, minimum math, basic reasoning ability. + Ability to work with diverse groups of people. + Ability to work under pressure and to take direction from others. **Our Commitment** Rooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
