ER/ICU Supervisor
Job Title: Emergency and ICU Supervisor – Veterinary Technician or Experienced VALocation: VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center – San Diego, CAVCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center is a high-volume, 24-hour emergency and specialty referral hospital located in beautiful San Diego, California. We recently opened our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in July 2025 and are expanding our leadership team. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and compassionate Emergency and ICU Supervisor to lead our Emergency and Critical Care technical staff.This leadership role is ideal for a credentialed technician (RVT) or highly experienced veterinary assistant with a strong background in emergency medicine, ICU, and team leadership. The ideal candidate is passionate about mentorship, patient care, team development, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.

Schedule : Full-time 4/10 hour shifts

Compensation: $ 25.50 - $ 36.00/hour

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials.

Key Responsibilities:• Supervise and support the daily operations of the Emergency and ICU departments, ensuring high standards of patient care and client service• Act as a liaison between doctors, technicians, assistants, and hospital leadership• Provide hands-on clinical support, especially during high-volume hours and critical cases• Lead onboarding, training, and development of new staff; identify opportunities for continuing education and skill advancement• Manage staff schedules, approve time off requests, and ensure adequate coverage for all shifts• Conduct regular team meetings and check-ins to promote open communication and address departmental needs or concerns• Assist in performance evaluations and contribute to disciplinary processes when needed• Uphold and enforce hospital protocols, safety standards, and infection control procedures• Collaborate with other department supervisors to support a cohesive hospital environmentQualifications:• RVT license in California preferred; experienced veterinary assistants with strong ER/ICU background will also be considered• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in veterinary emergency/critical care required• Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills• Demonstrated ability to lead by example, support staff growth, and handle high-stress situations with professionalism• Flexibility to work weekends, overnights, or holidays as needed in a 24/7 hospital settingThis is a dynamic opportunity for someone who wants to be a driving force in shaping the culture, workflow, and success of our Emergency and ICU teams.
