Job Description:

Parsons is seeking an Equipment Technician PIF / Facility Assessor to support the New Jersey Vehicle Inspection Program (VIC) at private inspection facilities (PIFs) and state-operated facilities across the State of New Jersey.

This field-based role combines hands-on service and repair of emission inspection equipment with facility assessment, inspection, and reporting. The position includes performing routine and preventive maintenance, responding to emergency repair calls, providing technical support to private inspection facilities (PIFs), and conducting daily facility inspections with detailed documentation and follow-up.

You will spend the majority of your time in the field visiting inspection facilities, ensuring equipment operability, facility compliance with standards, and high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Service & Technical Support

Perform routine service, troubleshooting, and repair of emission inspection equipment at private inspection facilities (PIFs).Respond to repair service calls at assigned and other locations as dispatched by the Manager of System Development & Field Services, Supervisor of Technical Services, or designee.Perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on inspection equipment, including emission inspection systems and related devices.Provide on-site technical and repair support to approximately 1,000 private inspection facilities across New Jersey, including:Troubleshooting equipment and system issuesAssisting with basic diagnostics and repairsCoordinating required repairs with contractors and vendors

Facility Inspection & Assessment

Prepare daily written reports detailing:Facilities inspectedName(s) of contractor(s) performing servicesAcceptability/quality of services performedSpecific discrepancies observedRecommendations for corrective actions and follow-upAssess and document facility conditions, equipment status, and compliance with applicable standards and program requirements.Coordinate with facility inspectors, principals/managers, station managers, and their representatives on all aspects of subcontractor/supplier performance and compliance.

Work Orders, Requisitions & Inventory

Respond to emergency and routine facility repair requisitions in a timely and professional manner.Maintain status and follow-through on all Facility-Link (or equivalent) system repair requisitions within an assigned region (North, Central, or South).Maintain accountability, on a daily basis, for spare parts and replacement equipment.Ensure weekly and monthly inventory records are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.Perform inventory control related to inspection and repair activities, including tracking equipment, parts, and supplies as directed.

Communication & Coordination

Communicate effectively with Parsons management, facility personnel, contractors, and vendors regarding equipment status, facility conditions, and service/repair requirements.Provide clear, concise written documentation and reports in the required formats and systems (e.g., Facility-Link).Demonstrate strong customer service when dealing with private inspection facility staff, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Travel Requirements

This is a field-based role requiring extensive travel throughout the State of New Jersey.Must be willing and able to work in the field no less than 80% of the workday, visiting state-operated and private inspection facilities across assigned regions.A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.Must be able to efficiently manage daily travel schedules and adapt to changing site needs and priorities.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work is performed at various vehicle inspection facilities (both state and private) across New Jersey.Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb as needed to conduct inspections in and around vehicle bays, equipment areas, and facility spaces.Ability to carry and use inspection tools, testing devices, and related equipment as required.Ability to lift 50lbs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Strong technical competencies in emission inspection equipment service and repair, facilities maintenance, and/or electronics.Valid driver’s license.Computer literacy, including the ability to:Use reporting tools and internal systems (e.g., Facility-Link or similar)Prepare clear written reports and documentationOperate standard office software (email, word processing, spreadsheets)

Experience profile (either of the following):

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related technical field, with typically 3+ years of related experience;
ORNo degree, with 5–7 years of relevant experience in facilities maintenance, inspection equipment service/repair, and/or electronics.

Salary Range: $30.58 - $53.51
