Are you a strong team player with a passion for the environment and environmental regulations? We are currently seeking an Environmental Technician to join our Environmental Health & Safety team in an onsite role based in Ames, Iowa, reporting directly to the EHS Manager.

In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring environmental compliance by adhering to established protocols for managing hazardous and non-hazardous waste, overseeing the testing, treatment, and discharge of process water to the City of Ames water treatment plant, and supporting chemical spill response and cleanup efforts. Your ability to act with urgency and collaborate closely with production to support operational needs will be highly valued.

The ideal candidate will have a background in environmental regulations, be comfortable working with the metric system, and have hands-on experience using hand tools, pumps, and laboratory instrumentation.

In this role, a typical day will look like:

Collect, consolidate, manage, and ship hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal waste in full compliance with Hach’s Hazardous Waste Management Program.

Conduct routine onsite inspections of approved and prospective hazardous waste vendors to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Follow established procedures to maintain compliance with Hach’s pretreatment agreement with the City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Department.

Perform daily analysis of process water, execute approved treatment protocols, and ensure proper discharge in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Support the plant Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team with environmental compliance activities, operational tasks, and other assigned responsibilities.

The essential requirements of the job include:

Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of at least two college-level chemistry courses preferred, or 3+ years of experience in hazardous waste management and/or laboratory environments.

Associate degree in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), Environmental Science, or related field strongly preferred; Certified Environmental Safety and Health Technician (CESHT) or similar certification is highly desirable.

Valid driver’s license required.

The below range reflects the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. An associate’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.

The compensation range for this role is $30.00 - $30.00 USD per hour. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
