Role purpose:
As an Environmental Sustainability Assessment Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expertise in environmental impact assessments of new and existing AI manufacturing processes and championing activities to minimize their environmental footprint. You will support teams to identify opportunities, at various scales, to reduce environmental impacts and support the introduction of new and improved technologies for this purpose. Additionally, you will maintain expertise in environmental abatement technologies and build networks with internal and external stakeholders to support environmental initiatives.
Accountabilities:
Working with diverse teams to identify environmental impacts of chemical processes and implementing improvement measuresPerforming quantified technical assessments and cost analysis of process routes while developing sustainable implementation strategiesSupporting process development teams with environmental impact minimization guidance and contribute to the development and maintenance of IT infrastructure for sustainability assessmentsProviding environmental consultancy to Syngenta functions (Packaging, Technology & Sourcing, Formulation Development, Research, Regional Sustainability) and maintaining stakeholder relationshipsPlanning and executing laboratory and bench scale programs to assess environmental amelioration technologies, ensuring proper experimental proceduresSupervising pilot plant trials and ensuring technical aspects of environmental process assessment and validationConducting rigorous scale-up assessments of environmental abatement unit operations from laboratory to plant scaleGenerating comprehensive technical documentation including experimental results, cost calculations, pilot campaigns, and patent applicationsSupporting technology transfer activities for both in-house and third-party manufacturing operations, collaborating with T&E departmentsMaintaining HSE compliance while contributing to innovation and continuous improvement within process engineering and New AI process technology departmentCompany Description

Qualifications
M.Sc. or PhD in Environmental, Chemical or Process Engineering or similar with more than three years of relevant industrial experience or equivalent work experienceUnderstanding of environmental legislation and regional differences thereofExperience working across different sites, functions, cultures and preferably in a chemical manufacturing environmentFluency in English, other language skills (particularly German, French) are highly valuableKnowledge of Life cycle assessment, preferably in the agrochemical or fine chemical industryStrong strategic and conceptual thinking skillsKnowledge of chemical engineering principles related to environmental abatement technologies and good understanding of sustainability impacts of chemical productionExperience in managing small to medium projectsTrack record in successfully influencing non-technical stakeholdersTrack record in presenting ideas, concepts and proposals to non-technical stakeholders
