Role: Environmental Site Lead
Location: Afungi, Mozambique
Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable)

Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Site Lead to oversee and coordinate environmental management activities on a large-scale onshore project. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing environmental systems, leading audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory and project requirements, and driving continuous performance improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a site environmental management system in compliance with applicable laws, standards, and regulations.

Establish and maintain environmental audit protocols, conduct internal audits, and support external audits and follow-up actions.

Lead the Verification & Assurance (V&A) program, including tools, procedures, and checklists.

Maintain and update environmental risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies.

Manage contractor environmental reporting, including monthly templates, consolidated reports, and KPI dashboards.

Track, analyze, and report environmental performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.

Maintain an environmental non-conformance register and oversee corrective actions.

Conduct readiness reviews for external audits and lender site visits.

Review and provide feedback on contractor environmental management plans.

Ensure quality assurance and control of environmental data and reporting.

Support ecology management, monitoring programs, and site reclamation activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

University degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.

10–20 years of experience in environmental management, preferably in large-scale construction or extractive industries (Oil & Gas strongly preferred).

Experience with IFC Project funding requirements.

Knowledge of Mozambique environmental regulations (desirable).

Fluent in English (written and spoken); Portuguese proficiency is an advantage.

Strong expertise in auditing, assurance, and performance improvement initiatives.     #LI-RM4         ???????
