Job Description

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Philadelphia on October 9-10, 2025. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026.

The event kicks off on Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.

On Friday, interviews will take place at our Philadelphia office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOM is actively seeking an Environmental Science Interns to be based in our Mid-Atlantic Region offices, in PA, MD, or VA.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry’s best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM’s dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.

This position is expected to begin May/June 2026.

The Science Intern will support our EPP team in both the field and office. We are seeking a motivated candidate who would like to develop and advance in a full-time environmental career.

With world-class technical expertise, leading-edge technology, and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients clean up and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost-effectively manage residuals and wastes.

Job Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

Working with the AECOM ecological team to become familiar with our field survey equipment, data forms and other data collection and reporting tools.Assisting AECOM ecological teams in performing stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments, and other ecological field surveys.Assisting AECOM ecological teams with writing and developing field data sheets and reports.Assisting with coordination of various governmental agencies regarding ecological survey protocols, reporting standards, or endangered and threatened species coordination.Creating field maps and report mapping through Geographic Information System (GIS) programs, specifically ESRI software.Reviewing desktop information to complete environmental impact assessments.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree program in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Studies, GIS, or another related field with the intent to continue enrollment after the internship and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.Be able to commute to office location at least 3 days per week.Be available to travel to job sites when requested. Interns will be accompanied by AECOM team members.Valid US Driver's License is required for this position.As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications:

40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Strong data analysis and document preparation experience in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
