The successful candidate will work alongside professionals in both Auburn University’s Environmental Health and Safety Department and the Ft. Benning Department of Public Works to assist with Ft. Benning’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES ). This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of environmental health and safety while working with a dynamic team. This position will also perform spill response duties as part of the Fort Benning Spill Response Team. **Essential Functions** + Assists with planning, preparing and coordinating implementation of Fort Benning Phase IINPDES Stormwater Permit. Assists with on-going inspections and provides technical assistance for the erosion and sedimentation control practices used at Fort Benning construction sites. + Provide environmental consultation and support to assist units, government branches, and/or federal contractors with compliance regarding state, federal andDOD environmental regulations and guidelines including review of RECs / 144Rs. + Assists with planning, preparing and coordinating implementation of the Fort Benning Surface Mining Permit. Assists with on-going inspections and provides technical assistance for the erosion and sedimentation control practices used at Fort Benning Surface Mining Permitted borrow areas. + Participate in the chemical and/or hazardous materials emergency response team.
