As an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in keeping our patients, visitors, and team members safe. You will implement safety and environmental programs that reduce risk and promote a safe environment across our facilities.
In this role, you will monitor compliance with occupational safety and hazardous materials programs. You will also be a trusted resource, helping our teams stay up to date with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accrediting body standards such as TJC, DNV, CMS, AAAHC, OSHA, and EPA.
Although home-based in the triad area, travel will also be required to all Novant Markets, including Charlotte and the Coastal Region.

You bring a strong work ethic, good judgement, and critical thinking skills. You have previous work experience or knowledge of:
Building code requirements, electrical and fire codes, and regulatory compliance requirements for TJC, DNV, CMS, AAAHC, OSHA (state & federal), EPA (state & federal), and other applicable regulatory agencies. Heathcare experience is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
+ Perform risk assessments, safety checks, and hazardous materials reviews.
+ Manage and support safety-related policies and procedures.
+ Travel to acute and ambulatory care sites to implement safety and environmental programs.
+ Partner with clinical and support teams as a resource and monitor compliance.
Qualifications
Education
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, OR five years of relevant healthcare environmental health and safety experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Experience
+ Minimum of three years of relevant environmental health and safety experience required (healthcare setting preferred).
Licensure/Certification
+ Valid driver’s license in state of residence required.
+ Professional certifications such as CHSP/CHFSP, CHOP, HEM, MESH, or equivalent preferred.

+ Strong work ethic with good judgment and critical thinking skills.
+ Effective verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to perform well in high-stress environments with shifting priorities.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
+ Competency in completing department-specific skills validation and testing.
+ Ability to write clear, complete, and accurate reports.
+ Basic knowledge of building, electrical, and fire codes.
+ Understanding of regulatory requirements for TJC, DNV, CMS, AAAHC, OSHA (state & federal), EPA (state & federal), and other applicable agencies.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinicians, administration, leaders, contractors, and outside agencies.
+ Flexibility to drive and travel to multiple facilities as needed.
Preferred Skills
+ Maintenance of professional certifications, if obtained.
