The position will develop, implement, and lead Environmental, Health, & Safety activities and programs for the Wichita, Kansas operations. This position will provide support to the Plant Leadership Team in achieving their goal to eliminate work related injuries, protection of the environment, and sustainability efforts.  Support includes evaluation of the worksite, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements, proactive analysis of loss experience and recommendations regarding worksite safety practices. 

 

 

Essential Duties:

 

Leads the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) program, initiates, and influences integration of EHS policies, programs, and practices into the business. Manage activities that drive compliance with EHS regulations and company policies. Participates and ensures thorough incident investigations, documentation, and analysis of incidents/injuries; and maintains a follow-up system to ensure corrective actions are promptly implemented. Ensures effective EHS related education programs are in place (i.e., new hire, awareness, authorized, management, and contractor training programs) which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness. Drive success through the Company’s Planning, Engagement, Awareness and Knowledge (PEAK) continuous improvement program. Responsible for serving as a technical resource to support associates, at all levels, on safety/environmental related issues. Works to develop shared responsibility for program ownership. Analyzes and assesses plant safety trend data to drive safety resource allocation to reduce injuries. Maintains good relationships with Workers’ Compensation TPA’s and manages claims, including return to work practices. Facilitates, develops, and maintains existing safety programs to improve on the SEAL (Safety Excellence and Leadership) assessment score and performance year over year. Manage compliance tracking programs, record keeping, and reporting systems (i.e., OHSA Logs, CAPs, Air Inventory, SWP3, SPCC, Tier II, industrial waste, etc.,). Responsible for inspecting the facility to detect existing or potential risk to human health or the environment; and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated.

 

Manages the development of programs/events that build awareness, motivate associates to participate in safety initiatives, safety teams, and improve the overall safety culture of the site for our associates. Conducts/participates in department meetings and promotes an open line of communication with other team members.

 

Works on other projects and duties as needed or assigned by management.

 

 

Technical Experience and other Requirements:

 

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Engineering, Human Resources, or other relevant technical fields required.  Three to five years of related safety and/or occupational health experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of federal OSHA, and working knowledge of KDHE, EPA, DOT for the manufacturing environment. Proven track record of results in a fast-changing environment.  Action oriented - results driven. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; conducting oneself in a professional manner with all company associates, customers, government officials, and the public Knowledgeable in Workers' Compensation case management including return to work programs. Strong leadership, coaching and relationship building skills. Demonstrated experience in project planning, ability to work on multiple projects and tasks. Ability to gain employee commitment to site and company objectives. Works collaboratively at all levels of the organization. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, under the guidance of the Sr. EHS Manager and site leadership EHS related certifications (CHMM, CSHO, SHEP, REP, CSP, CIH) preferred Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
