Your Specific Responsibilities: The Bureau of Environmental Health is recruiting a postion in the vicinities of Jacksonville, Orlando, Pensacola, Tampa Bay, and Miami, Florida. The position will report to a local Department of Health office and travel approximately 25% of the individual's time worked. This is a highly professional position responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and providing consultative services and technical assistance in all phases of the environmental health program on a statewide basis. These services are provided to the department, other state, federal and local agencies, industry, and the general public. This position may travel up to 25% percent of the year to provide evaluations, trainings, and to conduct research in the field. This position coordinates the biomedical waste program and tanning program, assists in the coordination of the body piercing and tattooing programs, and provides program back up assistance in any other facility programs as needed. Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include the following: Routinely provides interpretations of health and environmental statutes and rules, relating to biomedical waste, body piercing, tattooing, and tanning, to county health departments, other agencies, professionals, and the general public. Regularly provides statewide technical assistance to all county health departments and the industry regarding "state of the art" technology and proper application within the confines of environmental and public health standards, including conducting in-depth analyses of biomedical waste treatment technologies. Routinely participates in developing proposed statewide administrative rules about environmental health programs. Regularly reviews, edits, and promulgates technical manuals and rules used by county health departments in environmental health program administration throughout the state, and occasionally prepares bill analyses of proposed changes to Florida Statutes. This position leads to any such issues related to biomedical waste and tanning facilities. This position also assists in developing, coordinating, and implementing statewide policies and procedures in several technical program areas of environmental health. Develops and provides training or educational information regarding biomedical waste, body piercing, tattooing, tanning, and other environmental health issues to the county health departments, other agencies, the regulated industry, and the public. Assists body art program manager with standardizing body piercing staff in infection control. Routinely monitors and evaluates environmental health program activities the county health departments perform related to tanning, body piercing, tattooing, and biomedical waste programs. Regular participation in the collection and analysis of operational data between the county health departments and the state environmental health program is included. Develops, modifies, and uses program evaluation and quality improvement guidelines and standards to evaluate and assess county health department performance to ensure consistency and effectiveness of individual environmental health programs with statutory and department requirements. Provides written reports to specific county health departments with recommendations for implementing corrective action to provide better and more cost-effective measures to protect Florida's environment and public health. Periodically represents the section at various departmental, professional, and civic meetings regarding health and environmental programs and liaises with other state and local agencies regarding work plan commitments.
