Environment & Release Manager

Role Overview

The Environment Manager is responsible for the planning, scheduling, lifecycle management, and cost optimization of all non-production environments (Dev, QA, UAT, Performance).

This role ensures that environments are stable, available, and cost-effective, enabling smooth delivery for project/product and test teams. The Environment Manager works closely with DBAs, Infra, Security, Network, Application, and DevOps teams to ensure CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and environment operations run efficiently.

They are also accountable for environment sharing, conflict resolution, risk escalation, and cloud/infrastructure cost optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Environment Planning & Scheduling

Own the NPE calendar (test cycles, releases, refreshes, maintenance). Partner with delivery teams to allocate and prioritize environments. Manage environment sharing and contention across teams. Proactively highlight and escalate risks (conflicts, capacity, performance).

Technical & DevOps Coordination

Serve as the single coordination point across DBAs, Infra, Network, Security, and Application teams for environment readiness. Work with DevOps to integrate CI/CD pipelines and align deployments with governance. Ensure environments are provisioned, refreshed, and configured with dependencies.

Operational Ownership

Oversee environment builds, refreshes, patching, and upgrades. Monitor health, availability, and performance (with SRE teams). Ensure compliance with security, data, and audit standards.

Cost & Optimization

Drive cloud/environment cost optimization. Track actual vs. estimated usage and enforce right-sizing. Reduce idle spend through automation and governance.

Collaboration & Governance

Partner with the NPE Intake Analyst for demand forecasting and feasibility. Collaborate with the Change Manager to align changes with schedules and readiness. Work with the Incident & Request Manager on systemic issues and RCA follow-ups.

Required Skills & Experience

6–8 years in Environment/Release/Platform Management with large-scale NPE coverage. Strong coordination experience across DBA, Infra, Network, Security teams. Proven track record working with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipeline integration and automation. Deep knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and environment orchestration. Hands-on experience with shared environment management and conflict resolution. Strong understanding of cloud cost optimization/FinOps (AWS Cost Explorer, Kubecost, CloudHealth). Excellent stakeholder management, risk escalation, and communication skills.
