Job Description

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Philadelphia on October 9-10, 2025. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026.

The event kicks off on Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.

On Friday, interviews will take place at our Philadelphia office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to be based in our Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or Virginia office. 

This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2026 or as discussed.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: 

Assisting the lead Ecologist/Wetland Scientist in performing stream, wetland, wildlife habitat assessments, and other ecological surveys.Assisting ecological leads with processing field data and development/originating ecological assessment reports and utilization equipment such as tablets and GPS units.Assisting with coordination of various governmental agencies regarding ecological survey protocols, reporting standards, or endangered and threatened species coordination.Reviewing desktop information to complete environmental impact assessments.Working with the team leads to become familiar with our field survey equipment, data forms and other data collection and reporting tools.Assisting in preparing permit applications and other technical information.Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer/scientist.Uses computer software as a tool for data management and calculations.Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.Local travel is likely and U.S travel possible and project dependent.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.Valid US Driver's License is required for this position.As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Preferred Qualifications:

General knowledge of basic environmental sciences.Proficiency in standard office suite software applications.OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification.Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with clients, regulatory officials, and fellow employees.Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.Ability to work independently, both in an office environment and in the field.Ability to travel locally, including occasional extended travel.

Additional InformationRelocation assistance is not available for this position.The position requires fieldwork, and the candidate must have reliable transportation and be able to travel overnight.Travel is required for this position. Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or Virginia. The selected candidate must be available to work in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or Virginia on a scheduled basis.
