Entry Level Construction Materials Technician
Job Title: Construction Materials Technician

Job Description

In the Kansas City market, the Construction Materials Technician will be responsible for visiting project sites to conduct testing on soils and concrete. The technician will return results to the lab and perform various tests. They will receive training under a PE-stamped engineer for special inspection projects, working with a project team to ensure accuracy and accountability.

ResponsibilitiesConduct field observations at construction sites, including inspection and testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt pavements.Perform pier inspections and log test borings.Conduct laboratory testing and report writing.Inspect contractor operations for concrete placement in pavements, bridge piers, and abutments.Conduct air content tests, slump tests, and obtain cylinders for subsequent load tests.Inspect contractor methods for handling and placing concrete to minimize segregation, finishing, and curing processes.Ensure paving trains produce smooth concrete pavements.Inspect installation of culverts, sewers, and ditches, ensuring safe trench excavation, proper alignment and grade, correct material bedding, and proper compaction of backfill.Skills & QualificationsKnowledge in the construction field Associates or Bachelors in Engineering or Construction preferred but not required Comfortable lifting and pushing 75lbs+ Comfortable working outsideWork Environment

The role involves visiting project sites around Kansas City to collect samples. The company is a specialty geotechnical firm in the Midwest that frequently wins municipal projects. Candidates must be prepared to interact with clients on-site. The company culture is aggressive and demanding, but fosters camaraderie, with team members often socializing outside of work. Work typically involves teams of 2-3 people taking samples in the field. Daily attire includes a t-shirt or polo with a vest, jeans, and work boots. Candidates should be prepared to get dirty and handle various weather conditions, such as rain and cold.


Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr.
