Job Description

Our Company is searching for an experienced Enterprise Risk and Compliance (ERC) Director, who will be responsible for managing and elevating of our enterprise risk and compliance programs, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements,

 

The ERC Director will be responsible for our ERC programs, including periodically conducting enterprise and compliance risk assessments, identifying and evaluating enterprise risk and developing and implementing strategies to mitigate these risks.  The ERC Director will also manage an effective monitoring program to ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory standards, conducting investigations into alleged non-compliance as necessary. 

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in risk management and compliance, with a strong understanding of legal and regulatory compliance and auditing frameworks. They should be adept at collaborating across the organization to identify and mitigate compliance, operational, financial, and strategic risks.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee the management and ongoing improvement of the Company’s risk and compliance programs to identify and effectively mitigate risks, foster our compliance culture and promote adherence to the highest ethical standards.Collaborate with subject-matter risk managers from various departments to ensure timely identification, mitigation, and monitoring of risks.Perform targeted risk assessments to identify key risks, ensure effective controls and risk mitigation, ensure effective monitoring and testing, and ensure appropriate response to violations of applicable standards.Keep current on emerging risks, regulations, investigations, and case law developments that are relevant to our business.  Some areas of focus include privacy, sales and marketing, climate, and vendor and contract management.Design, update and maintain corporate compliance policies and procedures, ensuring policies align with regulatory requirements, and work with internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate communication of and education for policies.Conduct internal and/or external investigation and escalation of violations of applicable laws, regulations, and policies and other related concerns, including (a) awareness and enforcement of the Company’s anti-retaliation policy for protecting whistleblowers; (b) effective use of the Company’s compliance hotline and other means of reporting compliance issues; (c) ensuring that proper discipline is meted out for compliance misconduct; and (d) ensuring that the Company implements any lessons learned from compliance misconduct.Perform compliance internal and external audits to verify, and identify opportunities to improve, adherence to policies and protocols.Stay informed of emerging regulatory changes and industry trends and advise senior management on potential impact to the businessPeriodically benchmark the Company’s compliance program against similarly situated peers.Regularly report to senior management and the board of Directors on the status of risk management and compliance initiatives, including key risk indicators and incidentsManage the response to any government inquiries relating to compliance.

Qualifications5+ years of prior experience in a compliance/risk/audit role in organizations of a similar size and complexity to Public Storage.Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field.  MBA and/or Legal degree is a plus.Experience with ERM tools (Diligent, AuditBoard or Workiva)Working knowledge of federal and state regulations, requirements, and other compliance standards applicable to the Company, and demonstrated ability to spot emerging trends and issues from external and internal data.Proven experience in collaborating with and influencing senior executives and board members. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships at the highest organizational levels.Proven experience in risk management, with a focus on both external and internal risks.Demonstrated success in managing risk and compliance programs and which foster a strong culture of compliance and ethical conduct.Excellent analytical, organizational, and long-range planning skills.Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different stakeholders.Strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with the Company’s board of trustees, executive officers and other team members.Strong moral and ethical code

Travel: 10-20%
