Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as an Engineering Technologist III or one level higher as a Senior Engineering Technologist.
Incumbent will be assigned to the Sandhills (NC) area within the Triangle South Zone. Incumbent will be assigned to support Substation Optimization, System Capacity, Maintain, Highway DOT Relocation, and various other Major Projects type work.
Location: Aberdeen, NC – Southern Pines Operation Center.
Chatham County, Asheboro, Rockingham and Sanford are possible other locations.
The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
The Senior Engineering Technologist is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. The Senior Engineering Technologist provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.
Responsibilities
Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
Conducts engineering and related studies.
You will have to work storms at the operation center, zone, Carolinas, Florida, Midwest, and off system if needed.
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
You may have to travel and assist with jobs in Area 262 (Henderson, Roxboro, and Zebulon) due to the workload.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Support emergency/storm events.
Basic/Required Qualifications

Required/Basic Qualifications - Engineering Technologist IIIEither 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent),
OR 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent),
OR 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
Required/Basic Qualifications - Senior Engineering TechnologistEither 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent),
OR 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent),
OR 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
Preferred QualificationsGood written and oral communication skills.
Experience in the utility industry.
Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.
Working Conditions
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Must provide support during emergency/storm events.Specific Requirements
