SUBSTITUTIONS: Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED. College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in one of these specialized fields: architecture, cartography, chemistry, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, geography, geology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.All specialized course work credited must be in the same specialized field. A combination of course work from different fields will not be accepted. Full-time training in sub-professional engineering from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis for a maximum of one year of experience. Completion of a two year course of study in a sub-professional engineering curriculum from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for two years of the required experience. A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology will substitute for all of the required experience. Possession of an engineer intern certificate will substitute for all of the required experience. NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + Assists the Engineering Technician 7 in the activities of the District Laboratory by serving as the lead worker over lower level technicians engaged in Laboratory Operation duties. Is responsible for ensuring high quality testing and sampling in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and LA DOTD testing procedures. Incumbent may be required to perform duties in extreme conditions (rain, heat or cold), to use a state vehicle for District-wide travel and to lift up to 45 lbs. All training requirements must be met and maintained. + As an assistant to Engineering Technician 7, leads Laboratory Operations unit for testing soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt. Reviews project contracts, prioritizes sampling, performs complex testing, and organizes test results for documentation and reporting. + As a lead worker, trains lower level technicians on test equipment usage, care, and calibration, reviews results, and manages maintenance requirements for laboratory calibration, as part of statewide accreditation program. + Inspects and certifies facilities and equipment used in concrete production and transport, assists with laboratory or field sampling, attends training courses, and may perform emergency operations as directed.
