SUBSTITUTIONS: Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: Inspection/Area of Certification + Monitors construction signage for compliance with Departmental requirements. + Inspects contractor construction procedures to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality assurance. + Collects required samples and tests materials that are to be included in the project. + Performs soil densification tests using nuclear density machine. + Receives profile data and evaluates pavement surfaces to determine longitudinal surface acceptability. + Takes all pertinent measurements including but not limited to length, width and depth verification. Office Duties + Indexes. + Labels and itemizes pay items in the project document records. + Recapitulates project document records for final audit. Computes and validates project quantities. + Obtains additional training as needed or required. + Uses computer engineering applications as required by Departmental policy. Design Of projects + Collects field data including cross sections, draws field sketches and calculates quantities related to Standard Departmental Design practices. Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional Career Progression:This position may be filled as an Engineering Technician 1,2,3, or 4. Compensation: Engineering Technician 1 - The starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked. Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
