Position Overview and Responsibilities:
This is an intermediate engineering position performing professional work and specialized technical tasks under limited supervision in the Oil and Gas Program regulated under Chapter 377, Part I, Florida Statutes, and as set forth in Chapters 62C-25 through 30, Florida Administration Code. These regulations address the environmental, compliance, and safety aspects of Oil and Gas operations and require a wide range of disciplines and specialties including the physical and natural sciences and engineering. The incumbent’s duties and responsibilities are described as follows:
+ Maintain oil and gas well and geophysical databases and maps. Update, backup, debug and improve program’s databases and/or GIS data and maps. Prepare and distribute reports as needed.
+ Fulfill information requests, develop and review technical documents, maintain the section's file system, and fill in for the section's field office staff as necessary.
+ Review geophysical permit applications for compliance with statues and rules. Process the applications for final agency action under the direction of the supervisor. Assist other staff with reviewing and processing of other types of applications. Maintain detailed and accurate records of regulated geophysical field activities. Perform final site inspections for each supervised geophysical work project. Document records of observer field logs and recommendations for appropriate follow-up actions including processing of surety releases.
+ Coordinate with DEP/DWRM webmaster on design and update of posted Oil & Gas Section information. Serve as Oil & Gas Section production data manager. Compile monthly reports from operators, input data, generate and post-production reports on the website for consumption by industry, governmental agencies, and the general public.
+ Assist with review of drilling and plugging plans, and other technical documents as needed.
+ Maintain and improve technical expertise through reading professional journals, participation in seminars and technical meetings, industry short courses and university level continuing education courses.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Basic knowledge of the physical, natural, geological or engineering sciences.
+ Skill in the use of personal computers, and ability to utilize software and database applications.
+ Basic ability to analyze and interpret scientific or technical data; organize data and write reports.
+ Ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Valid Drivers License
+ Travel
+ At least four years of verifiable related experience. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
Position of Special Trust Requirement:
This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.
