Job Description

Job Purpose:

To serve the needs of the business, our guests and our colleagues by ensuring efficient and safe running of all hotel plant, equipment, air-conditioning and other systems.

As a member of the Engineering department, this role is responsible for ensuring that all the engineering and maintenance activities of the hotel are conducted to the highest professional standards at all times, with guest comfort and safety being the highest priority.

2. Main Responsibilities:

Maintenance

Carry out continuous inspections to ensure the highest level of guest comfort is maintained and that all services are in proper working condition.Prioritize work and manage trade-offs between quality, cost, and timelines.Ensure that all maintenance requests are prioritised and are dealt with in an efficient manner.

Planning and Organising:

To comply with all statutory and legal requirements for fire, health and safety licensing and provide all necessary safety equipment required for work to be carried out efficiently and safely.Plan and manage all preventative maintenance work, new projects, extensions, and renovations.Continually monitor the responsible use of energy in the hotel, and implement measures resulting in energy cost savings.To prepare the Engineering budget for the property and provide the Engineering input into hotel strategic and operational planning exercises.

Administration

Liaise with P&C over all employee matters including recruitment and interviewing.Control all payroll and business expenditure of the department.

Budget Management:

Manage the maintenance department's budget, controlling costs while ensuring the quality of maintenance work.Approve and oversee expenditures for repairs, replacements, and upgrades.

Compliance and Safety:

Ensure the hotel complies with all local regulations and safety standards.Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure that the hotel is prepared for any emergency situations.Monitor project risks and develop mitigation plans.Lead engineering response during system outages or high-priority incidents.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Act as a liaison between engineering, operations, and executive teams.

Performance & Quality Assurance:

Track key engineering KPIs such as velocity, code quality, defect rates, and uptime.Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and performance analysis tools.Drive initiatives for improving system reliability, scalability, and performance.

Working with Others:

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering

     Work location: at the head office but should be able to travel upcountry occasionally
