Engineering Intern

The Engineering Intern will perform duties related to improving the performance of the Coated Abrasives Division of Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Inc. through evaluation of the manufacturing environment and the development and implementation of process improvements that result in improvements in productivity, quality, waste, safety, and throughput.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**

1. Conduct or assist in the conceptual and detailed engineering design of new equipment/machines and the modification of existing equipment/machines.
2. Interpret Engineering drawings, schematics, and instructions for the purpose of acquiring components, testing, debugging and installation of hardware.
3. Acquire, analyze, and present appropriate supporting data, and prepare/track capital appropriations as assigned.
4. Prepare and distribute periodic summary reports and/or detailed information related to process performance to preventative maintenance mechanics, machine operators, quality assurance, and production supervision.
5. Manage small manufacturing, engineering, or maintenance projects, overseeing contractors and internal personnel in completion of tasks.
6. Assist other engineers in the analysis of new process designs using Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), or other appropriate tools of Reliability Engineering.
7. Aid in the development of production models using simulation software.
8. Interact effectively within a team-oriented work group and with individuals at all levels in the organization.
9. Perform and or assist in additional projects as required.
10. Develop dashboards to track production performance and other critical metrics
11. Create SOP's and also update the existing ones to improve the quality of process documentation.
12. All other duties as assigned.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
Enrolled in a BS in a technical field.
1. Possess a working knowledge of statistical theory and exhibit competence in the application of appropriate statistical methods to studies.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and systems preferred.
3. Must be familiar with commercial software used in statistical analysis, project management, and CAD (Excel, AutoCAD, Similation Software).
4. Must possess excellent written, oral communication and analytical skills.
