Where is the work:

This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed on-site 3 days each week.


Job Summary:

This Engineering Information Designer role will create collateral that describes how to apply Trane equipment, controls and services in thermal management systems. Primary tasks include content development, copy editing, and project management for customer-facing HVAC application manuals, presentations, marketing collateral, online training tutorials, and Web content. Collaborate with applications engineering, systems development and software development teams to research product or system features, HVAC concepts, and equipment to create high quality, customer facing documents, while meeting critical business deadlines.


Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

Work with subject matter experts to refine, enhance, and augment technical customer information from multiple sources (internal and external).Determine project needs and priorities, estimate project tasks and timelines, formulate and present document plans.Coordinate schedules, tasks, and resources with project teams to ensure on-time completion of projects.Facilitate and implement standard processes and improvements for document development, storage and access.Create technical documentation including illustration, design, copy and layout, for various publications (e.g., print, presentation, Web, digital media, software help, tutorials) in a way that users can easily understand content while maintaining its technical integrity.Develop marketing tools and educational resources in collaboration with applications engineering, system development, and marketing team. Ensure that all content is developed in ways that make digital distribution effective, efficient, and measurable.Contribute to departmental process improvement initiatives.Collaborate with communication and marketing teams to build awareness, promote educational resources and measure success through adoption.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Information Design, Technical Communication (or equivalent discipline) with at least 8-years of work experience creating documentation is required.Master’s Degree is a plus but is not required.


Essential Skills or Knowledge:

Outstanding written communication skills required.Proficiency in information gathering, technical copywriting, page layout, Web design concepts and e-learning tools required.Must be able to independently refine, augment, and enhance technical and communication material.Tactfulness and assertiveness; must be effective and clear decision-maker under pressure situations; able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.Demonstrated project management skills. Success-oriented, self-starter and able to manage time and priorities to meet specific goals and objectives.Highly developed and demonstrated interpersonal and oral communication skills and team-player skills required.Desire to develop a technical background in the HVAC industry to appropriately write for a technical engineering audience required.Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.Demonstrated layout and illustration competency with Adobe FrameMaker, Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, PowerPoint and Acrobat applications required.Knowledge of or exposure to RoboHelp, Captivate is preferred.Experience with Web design concepts including usability, data collection and user interface design preferred.
