Engineering Group Manager – VMEC Body Controls, Digital Key

Job Description

Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Milford, MI) three times per week, at minimum.

Relocation:

The Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls (VMEC) team in GM’s Software and Services organization is at the core of vehicle control—developing the software and calibrations that orchestrate everything from internal combustion engines and hybrid drive units to high-voltage batteries, chassis, thermal systems, and beyond. Our mission is to continuously invent and refine how the world's best mechatronic systems are controlled.

We are seeking an Engineering Group Manager to lead a team focused on digital key embedded software. In this role, you will lead a team of talented engineers in delivering a secure and seamless vehicle entry and access experience in partnership with suppliers. You and your team will work cross-functionally across product, program, and systems partners to ensure robust integration and delivery of high-quality, production-ready software that supports both our current portfolio and our all-electric future.

Provide technical leadership and vision in the domain of vehicle access and digital key technologies, driving engineering excellence and adherence to best practicesDevelop and execute forward-looking strategies aligned with customer needs and GM’s transformation into a tech-driven mobility companyDemonstrate strategic insight into emerging access and authentication technologies, helping shape long-term vision and innovationLeverage Agile methodologies to accelerate innovation, enhance team velocity, and deliver high-quality software on time at scaleBuild and nurture a high-performing team focused on capability growth, technical development, and talent retentionFoster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation, ownership, and continuous improvementManage supplier relationships, including technical oversight, performance tracking, and alignment with program milestones and quality standardsEngage in code reviews, critically evaluate existing approaches, and provide architectural guidance as neededModel and champion GM's values and behaviors in everything you do

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical fieldMinimum of 10 years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems, calibrations, and toolchains (eg:  C programming, Lauterbach/debugging tools, CAN/LIN/ethernet network protocols, Jira, Git ecosystem)Demonstrated technical background in vehicle access, digital key technology and related body control domainsDemonstrated leadership of engineering teams developing or testing embedded control systems in an Agile environmentStrong ability to drive results through collaboration, manage multiple projects with varying priorities, and measure work using data and key performance indicatorsExperience managing suppliers, including technical reviews, milestone tracking, and issue resolutionStrong cross-functional leadership and communication skills; able to align multiple teams toward a common goalProven track record of successful project execution and deliveryDemonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and drive timely, informed decision-makingValid driver’s license with ability to operate test vehicles

Master’s degree in Engineering and/or an MBAExperience leading the development and implementation of industry standards in embedded systemsBackground in safety and regulatory compliance for embedded systemsExperience managing globally distributed teams
