Engineering Group Manager – Propulsion Thermal Management
**Job Description** **Work Arrangement:** **Hybrid** - This role is categorized as hybrid. We are seeking a talented Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. **The Role** **We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Engineering Group Manager to lead a software engineering team in the Propulsion Thermal Management ART, focused on Quality Assurance** . This ART is part of the VMEC-CB Software and Services group. This is a people leader role for a candidate with strong technical skills and will include responsibility for software development, testing, and release for all of GM’s Thermal Systems for BEV, PHEV and ICE Vehicles. You will work cooperatively with different software and controls teams within the ART and cross-functionally with Hardware, Cabin Controls, HVAC Software, Diagnostics, VDDV, Thermal Engineering, HVAC Performance, Thermal System engineering, and Global Performance Integration to deliver world-class thermal controls and software **What You'll Do (Responsibilities)** + Manage a group of engineers responsible for the development of System Tests driving the delivery of Testable Functionality Rollout Plan (TFRP) PAR Objectives, and management of Testing Assets (including virtual packages and thermal benches) to support the delivery of controls and diagnostic software and calibrations within the thermal systems, on schedule. + Be hands-on by leading high-impact efforts and driving technical decisions or consensus across studies and projects. + Serve as the champion and sole owner of product quality and testing for the Propulsion Thermal Management ART, including calibration. + Lead development of automated test scripts to continuously verify the functional capability of our software for all Propulsion Thermal Management scrum teams for airflow controls, coolant systems, and refrigerant systems for BEV, ICE and PHEV programs + Support testing and scripting efforts for the development of thermal control systems software within virtual, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) and vehicle testing + Proactively prevent issues, contain critical problems quickly, implement final fixes, and institutionalize corrective actions to eliminate systemic issues. + Perform risk assessments and trade-off analyses to support informed decision-making. + Ensure the engineering group follows Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles to perform work effectively. + Ensure team members are positioned to meet cost, quality, and timing goals for deliverables. + Create development and learning opportunities for employees and drive high levels of engagement. + Identify and pursue new opportunities for the team to add value (e.g., Continuous Exploration, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment). + Support recruiting, lead hiring efforts, and conduct performance reviews. + Forecast and manage the group’s annual budget. + Navigate ambiguity and change with proficiency and resilience. **Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)** ​ + Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering or Computer Science with 6+ years of work experience + Experience within Quality Assurance, Test Automation, Test Driven Development and CI/CD methodologies, aimed at delivering high quality production software + Strong functional knowledge of automotive thermal management system + Demonstrated experience in leadership with 2+ years in experience in leading or managing software, algorithm or controls development teams with strong technical skills + Hands-on proficiency with embedded C, MATLAB/SIMULINK or Python + Demonstrated proficiency in leading, mentoring, and guiding engineers + Excellent communication, problem-solving and presentation skills + Experience in recruiting engineers and outside services + Familiar with the commonly used SW and system verification environments (HIL) **What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred** **Qualifications)** + Graduate Degree – Engineering or Computer Science with 6+ years of work experience and 2+ years of experience in leading or managing s/w algorithm or controls development teams + Experience within virtual testing (Cosimulation test environments) of thermal systems, including airflow controls, coolant systems, and refrigerant systems + Knowledge of Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and Testable Functionality Rollout Plan (TRFP) leveraged to drive specific functional software behavior + Demonstrated experience in leading software or algorithm development teams in thermal or battery systems management + Strong understanding of Agile Develop methods and Scaled Agile Framework + Basic knowledge of Machine Learning tools GM DOES NOT PROVIDE IMMIGRATION-RELATED SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS ROLE.
