They are responsible for defining the Project Development Plan (DDVP), which includes the overall strategy, product definition, assignment of project managers, and detailed structuring of the tasks to be performed (using the Work Breakdown Structure, WBS).
The EDM plays a key role in leading the coordination and management of all engineering activities, facilitating communication and fostering effective collaboration among team members. They interact with the various disciplines involved, with their Middle Managers and Head of Discipline, as well as with the project manager and, to a lesser extent, with the industry department.
Their objective is to ensure deliveries within the established deadline (Design On-Time Delivery, D-OTD), through proper planning and rigorous monitoring of project activities. Additionally, the EDM is responsible for consolidating risks and opportunities in the engineering field.
Deliveries manages multi-project planning, arbitrating between projects according to company priorities. In the event of a conflict, the EDM seeks to achieve the most efficient solution.
In addition, the EDM acts as the engineering representative in follow-up meetings with management (steering).
