Job Description
The Engineering Cost Estimator will be responsible for interpreting customer-supplied drawings, models, parts lists, and BOMs to determine job requirements. This role involves obtaining vendor prices for required materials, hardware, and processes, determining manufacturing processes, creating labor and cost estimates, and compiling comprehensive quote packages for each job.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate the preparation and review of Request for Quotes (RFQs) for existing and prospective customers, assessing feasibility, producibility cost, and production time.Provide detailed manpower and material cost estimates for fabrication, testing, design, and assembly tasks based on design documentation and drawings.Review bid packages for completeness and resolve discrepancies in RFQ packages with the customer or end user.Provide contracting and purchasing departments with a list of PO material, supplies, and processes requirements for awarded contracts and verify PO issuance.Complete solicitation review forms and ensure quality management reviews the package. Contact relevant departments if the package includes testing, engineering requirements, or production issues.Collaborate with other departments such as Engineering, Planning, Quality, Contracts, Production, and Programming to develop an Excel worksheet bill of materials and labor estimates for quotes.Ensure all RFQs are bid or no-bid before due dates, with due dates listed on the bid board and electronic Quote Log.Report directly to the Lead Estimator and ultimately the company President, who will provide general supervision and assign additional duties as required.Essential SkillsExperience in machine shop operations, drawing and BOM interpretation, GD&T, and CAD software.Proficiency in reading and interpreting 2D drawings, CAD models, parts lists, BOMs, and other technical data.Familiarity with CATIA, Master Cam, and similar CAD/CAM systems.Proficiency in basic computer functions such as Microsoft Word, Excel, email, SharePoint, and file management.Knowledge of manufacturing standards, including aerospace/defense machining tolerances (±0.0001 to ±0.005 inches).Experience with materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, Inconel, and titanium.Quality control standards (AS9100/ISO9001).3-5 years of relevant experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExtensive CNC machine shop, mechanical assembly, and/or welding background preferred.Experience working with or familiarity with Boeing, Lockheed, Northrop, and their quality standards is a significant advantage.Work Environment
Work under the Lead Estimator in an onsite CNC machine shop, interacting with engineers, leadership, machinists, and customers. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 3 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break from 12-12:30. This position is fully onsite with no remote flexibility. The company is small, with a family-oriented culture, having been started by the owner's father.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
